First-Hand Shoji Experiences
I recently visited Shoji Spa for a massage/hot tub package and had an awesome experience. Amanda was my massage therapist and she was amazing! Hands down one of the best massages I've ever had. I highly recommend this place for a little getaway and Amanda as a therapist!

What a relaxing and rejuvenating space! My wife and I have visited a few times and it's great. The ambiance of the private hot tub areas is unique for the area. I love the sauna and the outdoor cold shower is quite the experience. The masseuse staff is fantastic and great at getting rid of all my aches and pains. Highly recommended!

First visit at Shoji and will definitely not be my last. Booked a 60-minute soaking tub experience (beverage add-ons available) and enjoyed the additional amenities of the spa, including cold showers, sauna, and outdoor lounge. Soaking tub (#2) located along the lower pathway; did not hear any other parties/guests. Setting was beautifully secluded; couldn't have asked for a better reward after a week of hiking.

We had the best experience at Shoji Spa & Resort. We stayed two nights in the House of Earth and enjoyed the Buddha's Best spa package. The accommodations were tranquil to say the least! Incredibly comfortable sleeping arrangements with everything we could need waiting for us in the room. The private tub soak was beyond relaxing, paired with the awasu massage (BOOK AMANDA, she was magical!), and finished off with quite the relaxing sensory experience in the shavasanah room. If you are looking for a relaxing, romantic weekend look no further than Shoji!

Shoji is such a hidden gem. The prices are incredibly reasonable and a soak is so much more affordable than pretty much any service from a traditional spa. It's a magical location and you cannot hear anything from the tubs. It feels so peaceful and secluded. This is always a treat.

What a wonderful retreat for finding healing and stillness amongst the mountains and fall foliage just outside downtown Asheville. We visited in late October for my birthday, and stayed in the Mother of Earth lodge (highly recommend) and enjoyed two tub soaks, a couple's massage, and the savasana retreat across two days. All were awe inspiring and peaceful experiences, made even better by kind, calm, generous Shoji staff. The savasana retreat is a great add-on after a tub soak— those infrared and gemstone mats! Wow! And tub soaks (including the outdoor cold showers!) and massage are definite musts. Thanks, Shoji!

We went for the spa and it was excellent. The hot tub was private and had an amazing view and the cold rinse was refreshing. The massage was wonderful and the area very relaxing. We would definitely do it again.
Super relaxing. Staff was really nice and check-in was easy. Plenty of signage around and didn't have any trouble parking.

The couples salt spa with tea was really nice. The front desk attendant was so sweet and accommodating. We had a big truck so parking was a little stressful but would be easy for a regular sized car. The drive up was wild.

I go to a lot of spas, especially ones with soaking tubs. I would rate this one as average. The private tub itself was nice. Good sized tubs and private space, nice woodsy view. But it didn't feel very secluded. We were placed in one of the 2 private tubs near to the reception area which may have affected my experience. While it wasn't noisy with the bubbles on the tub running, you could hear people talking and moving around if you turned them off. When soaking, I sometimes just want silence and that wasn't really possible here. There were people sitting right outside our tub area, too, which did not make us feel secluded or private in our space. If you are lucky enough to get a tub space down the hill, I think the experience would be much better. The cold shower and hot sauna included in your experience are shared with the other tubs and we would have had to walk out of the tub area and across the reception area (with people sitting around waiting for their service) to get to them. Meaning we would have had to dry off+ put on robes to move between the areas which feels like a lot. it also just doesn't feel super spa like or relaxing to me to have to walk past the waiting area in my robe on repeat (I've been to places where each tub area has a private cold shower and private dry sauna.. now that is amazing!).We paid for a tub side tea service but it was never brought to us. They did refund our money for that service without any hassle and apologized, but we were still sad to have missed this piece of the experience. Finally, we did a "salt scrub" service after our soak. I would not do this again as I didn't think it was worth the money. They give you a small plastic container of oily salt and one of soap and send you off to the showers on your own. We were not given any instructions - just motioned where to go. I was not totally sure how to apply it ... Do I get wet first? Apply to dry skin? Leave it on for a few minutes? etc. Some instruction would have been nice. Also, the showers there require that you pull down on a string to make them run. So you only have one hand to wipe off your oily-salt. It was not super relaxing. The biggest issue I found is the size of their bath/shower/locker rooms. It is entirely too small for the number of people coming and going and does not generate a relaxed, spa-like vibe. There are no lockers to store your items so you have to carry them around with you. There is only ONE bathroom/toilet for all guests and staff and only TWO showers (one shower area with a curtain forming it into two spaces) and TWO very small changing areas. The place was crowded and there was a line for the bathroom every time I was in there. I felt rushed to take a shower before my service instead of being able to enjoy it and felt rushed again getting dressed at the end.If I come back, I would probably opt just for a tub soak and come prepared to dress in my tub area at the end of my allotted time.

My wife and I went to Shoji for our anniversary and experienced the tubs and massages. Cain was my massage therapist and he was fantastic. He was informative, communicative, and professional. He listened to my needs and focused on the areas I asked him to, and because of that, it was the best massage I've ever had.

My massage therapist, Monica, was amazing. Her style puts you in a state of deep relaxation and she told me about some stretches to help my tight neck and shoulders. Ashley massaged my friend and helped relieve some of her chronic neck pain. The atmosphere was so relaxing and I felt safe due to the hygiene procedures at the salon. We also stayed at the resort and it was quiet, clean and a very Zen atmosphere.

I had been wanting to come here for a while. I couldn't have made a better choice by choosing to come on my wedding anniversary weekend. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Me and my husband got one of the package deals. It seems it's best to book a month in advance if you want a hand massage. We booked late and had to settle for the chair massage. The chairs literally massage you from head to toe. I honestly prefer a massage by a therapist ,but I will say our bodies seemed to find it relaxing because we both fell asleep in the chair. Our favorite part was probably relaxing in the hot tub. Looking forward to coming again during fall season. We truly enjoy our experience!
Lovely and super relaxing place! We visited the hot tub, the amazing chair massage & the Shavasana room. Nice way to spend an afternoon and let the stresses melt away!

This hidden gem is tucked way up in the mountains... and it is simply an experience you want to have and should plan a little better than we had. If you choose to stay know that the rooms are huge! If you decide to simply use the amenities, please know that their massages are booked out for at least a month. BUT they offer a package with their soaking tub and massage chair that is a worthy experience of it's own.
We love Shoji Spa. This was our second visit. We love the salt water tubs in the woods. Very relaxing! They are still implementing their COVID protocols and felt very safe there.

Excellent space for celebratory relaxation. I love getting the tea service with my tub, my partner loves the amazing-smelling hinoki soap, and we both love the cedar sauna. Last time we went for a soak was mid-February and started snowing lightly and it was exceptionally lovely.

Wonderful spa! Very relaxing, once you've arrived and settled in, but TERRIFYING getting there! The road leading to the actual spa is very windy, and is only one car width wide (with no shoulder on either side!), so if another car is coming in the opposite direction, GOOD LUCK! If it weren't for the sheer terror in getting there, definitely would be 5 stars!
Loved the salt water hot tub. Beautiful facility with beautiful views

This place exceeded my expectations! We started with a soak for in hour. The view from our private tub was amazing. We also enjoyed an hour long couples massage and they were amazing. The spa was very clean and professional. Beautiful scenery and relaxing experience!

I've been to this spa several times. I've used the soak tub and had a 90 min massage. The staff is great, prices are reasonable. Gorgeous views and location. Massage was expertly done and very professional.
We got a little turned around going up the mountain roads to get to this spa, so definitely pay attention to the signs! The grounds were beautifully landscaped. The amenities were nice but our private tub door wouldn't fully latch. It also could have been maintained a little more because there was a bit of a ring around our tub. That could be because the tubs are outside in nature, though. It also would have been nice to have the option to purchase a glass of wine and not entire bottles. There were a few snacks offered at the main entrance to snack on during soaks. My husband and I got the tub/massage combo for our honeymoon and our massages were awesome. Phillip was so kind and gentle while taking his time on areas I requested extra attention. We felt so relaxed when we left!
